An 11-year-old kid in Oviedo, Florida gets arrested, fingerprinted, and summoned to court over riding an electric bike on the side of the road… yet we’re told to look the other way when people are in this country illegally and driving without licenses, insurance, or registration. Yesterday on Capitol Hill, I had the opportunity to sit down with Representative Kat Cammack of Florida’s 3rd Congressional District—and I also had the absolute honor of presenting her with an award. 🇺🇸 We had a great conversation about women, the Second Amendment, and the importance of education when we talk about firearms and violence in America. One thing we discussed was language—particularly the phrase “gun violence.” A firearm is an inanimate object. It doesn’t make decisions. It doesn’t have intent. People do. And if we want productive conversations about violence, responsibility, crime, and protecting our communities, then we need to be willing to talk about all of those factors. Women have an important voice in the conversation surrounding the Second Amendment, and that voice deserves to be heard. I’m grateful for the conversation, honored to have had the opportunity to recognize Rep. Cammack, and looking forward to future conversations.
