I put 3D hands on top of my live2d model, it's super cool despite the occasional hiccup!
It's scuffed vroid model with just the forearms and hands, used a webcam with XR Animator + warudo to do the tracking!

For some rigging perspective on this conversation, we usually try to export the final model on 4k texture atlases (usually multiple on high quality models) to keep lag to a minimum.
This means that your largest layer should not exceed 4K in height or width to preserve quality 🙏

Bigger models also lag a lot more on the rigging side so please be mindful of pushing the canvas toooo big :'D
Like Mei's post shows, you can get plenty of good HD zoom on a 9k canvas or below.

not a new conversation btw, but it always helps to correct people when misconceptions come up so that we don't end up with crazy big models that have to resized in the rigging process anyway 🥹🙏
「VTuberの立ち絵は長辺10000px以上で作ったほうがいい」ってアドバイスが流れてきたけど、Live2D的には長辺6000pxあれば十分で10000px以上あると逆に重すぎて作業しんどいから非推奨になっちゃうんよねぇ
VTuber用Live2Dモデルの適正サイズは長辺4000px～6000pxじゃないかなぁ？と思う

I wouldn’t recommend 20k… and most 8k max. Any more and your rigging or your clients using the experience will lag.
It’s always better to optimize if you have a model exceeding 2000 layers, and the best you can do with that is by not going bigger than 8k canvas size.
