The core mission of WordPress has always been to democratize publishing.
AI doesn’t make that mission less relevant. If anything, it expands what “publishing” can mean.
WordPress started by democratizing the publishing of blog posts. Then it became a platform for publishing entire websites, eCommerce stores, learning platforms, communities, membership sites, and much more.
Now AI is dramatically reducing the cost and complexity of building software. The question is shifting from “How do I build this?” to “Where do I publish, own, and operate what I’ve built?”
That’s where WordPress has an enormous opportunity.
Whether something is built by a developer, a no-code tool, or an AI agent matters less. If you need an open platform to publish, extend, own, and control what you create, WordPress remains deeply relevant.
AI may change how we build. It doesn’t eliminate the need for an open web where we can publish what we build.
That is exactly what WordPress was created for.
