Today, I launched Manas AI –– a full stack AI company setting out to shift drug discovery from a decade-long process to one that takes a few years; bringing life-saving treatments to patients faster than ever.

This is great. The communities that will live alongside a data center for decades should decide whether to build one and on what terms. The decision to build or not build belongs to the communities who will bear the costs and share in the benefits, and no one else.

Americans are right to demand that the AI transformation serve their needs, not just the interests of the already rich and powerful. We must deliver economic prosperity for the American people, along with AI for America.

If companies and governments can negotiate the conditions under which AI is safe enough to advance, they can also negotiate how progress will improve everyday Americans’ lives. We must obtain economic prosperity for the many, and American AI leadership.

Any pursuit of superintelligence has to be grounded in the core principle that if the AI we build is not helping humanity and under human control, it's not worth pursuing. We also need to accelerate and spread the benefits of AI, such that they are diffused broadly across countries, communities, and companies. This requires a frontier ecosystem in which both closed and open-source models can thrive. And for firms, it’s imperative that they retain full control over their unique and tacit knowledge. Every organization should be able to build its own continuous learning loop/hill climbing machine, without becoming dependent on any one model provider, and have the ability to embed its own knowledge into models and weights they control. So, in this context, we welcome the research, focus, and deliberate pacing needed to get alignment right as the design goal. We also welcome ideas like "embedded evaluators" and the broader efforts to develop the mechanisms to make this more than just talk. The key is that this cannot be controlled by a handful of entities, but must have broad representation across the ecosystem, countries, and fields, including academia. This is the approach we are taking: broad access and choice at every layer of the AI stack; enterprise control of learning loops and models; and the “Code of Conduct” that underlies our own first party MAI models that we’ll publish tomorrow for public consultation.

There is a child with a rare disease who is currently suffering and struggling to manage his symptoms. Rare as this is, you can directly help him. Today we are launching the "Rare Disease, Real Kid" Hackathon, and there are $50,000 in prizes from @AnthropicAI and @awscloud. We (@huggingface & @Sagebio) are helping this child open his genome and clinical data to the community, so that we can find what's caused his disease and what currently-approved drugs could help him. I doubt I need to motivate this much further or explain how rare it is for a family to share their child's genome and clinical data, but if you're not sure, consider this: Until very recently, it wasn't feasible for patients like this to get treatment because their disease was so rare that the economics could never justify the investment. Now, as we've seen, people with rare diseases are starting to be able to find the answers themselves (with the help of AI tools, cheaper sequencing, etc). This kid is not able to do that for himself and neither are his parents, so we're asking you for help.
