There’s a level of social cohesion in East Africa that we rarely acknowledge. Across the region, East Africans cross borders, hawk goods, take up odd jobs and hustle in neighbouring countries, often with little documentation or bureaucracy. It’s an informal integration that, in many ways, is ahead of our institutions.
