Why’s man writing a fucking essay on Squillaci? Breh was dogshit
🇫🇷 Sébastien Squillaci brought something Arsène Wenger wanted Arsenal to have in the middle of a defensive rebuild: experience. A France international. A Champions League regular. A centre-back who had already defended at Monaco, Lyon and Sevilla before Arsenal secured his signature in August 2010. The fee was reported at around £5 million. And Wenger was clear about what he was buying. A real defender. Strong one against one. Good in the air. Dangerous from set pieces. Squillaci had also made a very deliberate decision to force the transfer through. Sevilla were preparing for a Champions League play-off against Braga. Squillaci refused to play. He did not want to become cup-tied and jeopardise the Arsenal move. The transfer went through. North London became the next chapter. His Arsenal debut came on 11 September 2010 against Bolton Wanderers at Emirates Stadium. Thomas Vermaelen was unavailable, and Squillaci stepped straight into the defence alongside Laurent Koscielny. The partnership made sense. One experienced French international. One younger French centre-back making his own way in England. Squillaci's first European night for Arsenal came against Partizan Belgrade. 28 September 2010. A hostile Champions League away match. Arsenal won 3–1. And Squillaci scored. Tomas Rosický's corner found him inside the penalty area. Header. Goal. His first Arsenal goal. The Champions League had already been part of his career at Monaco, Lyon and Sevilla. Now he was scoring in it for Arsenal. Five months later, another set piece produced another goal. Stoke City. 23 February 2011. Arsenal needed a response after a difficult period in the Premier League. Nicklas Bendtner delivered the cross. Squillaci attacked it. Header. 1–0. His second Arsenal goal. Both of his goals for the club came from exactly the same weapon Wenger had identified before the transfer. Set pieces. Timing. A centre-back attacking the ball. Across his first Arsenal season, Squillaci made 32 appearances in all competitions and scored twice. Arsenal also reached the League Cup final. But the defensive picture changed during the summer. Per Mertesacker joined Arsenal in August 2011. Thomas Vermaelen returned from injury. Laurent Koscielny continued to establish himself. Squillaci's opportunities narrowed. The 2011/12 campaign produced only six appearances. Just one came in the Premier League. He still featured in Europe, starting Arsenal's final Champions League group match against Olympiacos in December 2011. But by then, regular first-team football was disappearing. Sunderland. FA Cup fifth round. Squillaci entered in the 10th minute after Francis Coquelin was injured. Arsenal struggled. Squillaci himself was withdrawn before the hour. Sunderland won 2–0. The season never really recovered. His final Arsenal campaign brought just one competitive appearance. Olympiacos. December 2012. Another Champions League night. Another 90 minutes. But by then, his place in Wenger's plans had almost completely disappeared. Arsenal confirmed in June 2013 that Squillaci would leave when his contract expired. Bastia followed. The French defender had entered Arsenal as an experienced international brought in to strengthen a defence undergoing significant change. He left with 46 appearances for the club. Two goals. Both headers. Both from set pieces. Partizan Belgrade. Stoke City. And a career at Arsenal defined as much by competition for places as by the opportunities he received. Sébastien Squillaci. The experience. The positioning. The aerial duel. The set-piece threat. He never owned the Arsenal defence. He never became an automatic first choice. But for one season, he was there regularly, making 22 Premier League appearances, including 20 starts, and six Champions League appearances, all starts, as Arsenal navigated another demanding European campaign. 46 appearances. Two goals. One French international

💪 👀 Brian Brobbey certainly offers a different, more physical profile compared to our current attacking options. Do you think he would be a good fit for Mikel Arteta's system? Would you take him at Arsenal?

My boy. He stuck with us when we were at our worst, when we were in the trenches. Some of you need to remember that. He put his body through so much to win us our first league title in 22 years and some of you want to criticise him? Get out of here. Proper Arsenal fans know how good you are, Bukayo.
