🚨 GAMERS REMEMBER WHY WE’RE HERE.
The conversation around consumer choice at PS has gotten quieter. Destiny is back in the conversation, Bungie is talking again, Marathon is changing, and new leadership is stepping up.
Those are good things. But they’re distractions if we forget why we started pushing back in the first place.
This was never just about Destiny or Marathon, and this damn sure isn’t another PS-versus-Xbox console war.
This is about CHOICE.
Sony announced that physical-disc production for NEW PS games ends in January 2028. After that, new releases move to digital distribution.
Holy f*ck! look at the structure Sony already controls: the hardware, platform, storefront, subscription service, first-party publishing, first-party studios, and even the method by which you obtain the games themselves.
Sony’s own reporting describes PS as both a platform and studio business, with its store, PS Plus, hardware, software and first-party development inside that ecosystem.
That is why CHOICE matters.
A disc gives gamers another path. Another retailer. A used market. The ability to lend it, sell it, and keep a physical object in your house instead of having your entire library depend on one company’s ecosystem.
While Sony is eliminating new physical releases, Microsoft is testing something very different: supported physical-disc owners can claim digital entitlements while THE DISC CONTINUES TO WORK.
Think about that.
Sony: new physical PlayStation games end in 2028.
Microsoft: your physical disc can potentially give you MORE ways to access the game you already bought.
That lands like a shot across Sony’s bow: if you won’t protect the value of their discs, somebody else will.👈
But before anyone turns this into “Xbox good, PlayStation bad,” stop. Microsoft also has a 2026 patent describing personalized content "AD's" that can appear during lower-interaction moments in streamed gameplay.
Oh, I’m watching them too. Nobody gets a free pass. Not Sony. Not Microsoft. Not Nintendo. Not Valve. Not anybody.
This page was never supposed to defend corporations. It exists to defend GAMERS. ONLY GAMERS!
Somewhere along the way, I think some of us got comfortable because Bungie acknowledged what went wrong and started talking about Destiny’s future. Sony panicked!
I’m happy Destiny has a future. I fought for that conversation too.
But Bungie talking about Destiny again does not put physical games back on Sony’s roadmap. It does not restore the choice Sony has already said it intends to remove in 2028.
And it does not answer the bigger question: how much control over buying, accessing, keeping and transferring our games are we willing to hand to a single platform holder?
That is the mission.
Not outrage for outrage’s sake. Not hating Sony. Not worshipping Xbox.
CHOICE. YOUR CHOICE!
And personally, I’ve made mine.
I don’t care what day it is, what PlayStation announces tomorrow, or what shiny trailer drops. Sony will not get another dime from me while it continues down this road.
If you disagree with me, that’s fine. Think for yourself. Make your own decision. You have an X page....
Lots of gaming pages will tell you what to buy next. This one will keep asking what happens AFTER you buy it.
So if you believe physical choice matters:
NO DISC. NO BUY.
Stay off the PlayStation Store. Turn off PS Plus auto-renew if you no longer believe the service deserves your money. Buy physical while physical still exists. Support retailers that still sell games you can actually hold.
And most importantly, stop allowing the next shiny announcement to make us forget the last one.
We are gamers. Companies this large are perfectly happy to take every dollar we give them.
The question is whether we demand something in return.
CHOICE MATTERS. GAMERS MATTER!
