Alberta has officially announced the removal of speeding cameras across the province, effective today.
This decision follows a policy shift outlined by the provincial government, which bans photo radar on all numbered provincial highways and restricts its use to school, playground, and construction zones starting April 1, 2025.
Additionally, intersection safety devices will no longer issue tickets for "speed-on-green" violations, focusing solely on red-light enforcement.
The move aims to eliminate approximately 70% of the existing 2,200 photo radar sites, targeting locations previously criticized as revenue-generating "cash cows" rather than safety-focused measures.
