The Maryland Transportation Authority failed to use several available enforcement tools to collect more than $818 million in unpaid tolls and penalties from out-of-state motorists, according to a state audit released Tuesday.
The Office of Legislative Audits found that the authority had not entered into enforcement agreements with other states, hired a private collection agency or sought approval to refer the debt to Marylandâs Central Collection Unit.
