I agree 100%. Warm ups / Build ups are not the same thing. Warm up is more like band work, leading into light weight starter sets, getting blood flowing, and barely scratches the surface of motor recruitment... but it's mandatory to start that way.
Then the "build up" phase is where you start prepping for higher weight. You don't want to get fatigued, but you need to feel the weight shifting up as you build into the working sets. It's more about telling your body - hey dude, get used to this, we're going to be doing some heavy weight today. This is going to look different for everyone based on what their top weight is.
I find myself doing at least 2-3 sets of warm ups, and then 4 or so build up sets where you start getting into the real weight ( working sets ).
It's not as easy as it sounds to find that magic blend, so keep mental notes on how you feel as you see how you performed your working sets. Small adjustments can go a long way.
People don’t know how to warm up
I use systems for everything
I train everyday, not always knowing exactly what I’m doing but I follow a system that guides me
It’s important in training to learn to flow and not follow rigid rules
Here’s how I do it
