Five Years of $COTI and One Last Message Before I Step away

A few people have been asking about my thoughts on the recent leadership change at ethereum:0xddb3422497e61e13543bea06989c0789117555c5. Here is where I stand: I am staying fully invested for now. Why? Because my conviction isn’t tied to a single name! (I liked Shahaf, and I needed some time to process the news of the resignation, too.) It’s tied to the undeniable economic efficiency of this technology. Institutions, banks, and governments will inevitable migrate to public blockchains. The decentralized path is just cheaper and faster. @amateo has repeatedly confirmed this to us over the past few weeks through his conversations with the above-mentioned. But to onboard them, we need a privacy layer that offers zero latency for the everyday smartphone user. This is exactly why I believe ethereum:0xddb3422497e61e13543bea06989c0789117555c5 and Garbled Circuits (GC) will win the privacy race over ZK-Proofs and FHE: 🚫 The Limits of ZK & FHE: • ZK-Proofs cause heavy "Prover time" overhead on mobile apps. Generating a proof drains your battery and takes too long at checkout. Plus, ZK cannot natively calculate a shared private state between two different banks. • FHE is mathematically secure but computationally devastating. Running it on a phone causes overheating and takes minutes—unusable for real-world adoption. Why Garbled Circuits (ethereum:0xddb3422497e61e13543bea06989c0789117555c5 V2) Win in my Opinion: 1. Built for Smartphones: GC shifts the heavy lifting off your device. Your phone processes the transaction in under 0.5 seconds. No overheating, just the speed of Apple or Google Pay! 2. Shared Private State: GC allows true multi-party computation. A smart contract can cross-check private bank data against an encrypted government AML-list, outputting an "Approved" status without either party seeing the other's raw data. 3. Regulated Confidentiality: It balances absolute privacy with compliance. Users hold the Viewing Keys via their wallet to instantly comply with tax or KYC audits. But latency is the ultimate gatekeeper for global adoption. By solving the mobile bottleneck while keeping compliance intact, GC positions COTI V2 as the premier infrastructure for institutional Web3. The tech is too good to ignore. There is a real production deployment, real mainnet contracts, multiple supported assets and wallet-level infrastructure built around it. And we independently found WBTC actually interacting with the Privacy Portal on-chain before confirming it through GitHub. One correction to my previous research: There are NO confirmed new public commits after the Sep 21 management handover yet. GitHub showed “Updated Sep 22,” but the latest actual public commits are from Sep 17. So I’m watching the next commit closely. The Confidential Brief Every time you think you seen it all, something else comes along. Only in crypto! Yesterday’s bombshell announcement from @cotinetwork that the Privacy Consortium/ZK Foundation is taking over the running of $COTI obviously shocked everyone. Emotions have been running high. Lots of unanswered questions. New “owners” nowhere to be seen yet. Personally, I think this could all have been planned out a bit better. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though. I expect much more info to see the light in the coming days, allowing everyone to make informed decisions about their investment in the project. Some have already said “enough is enough” and sold out. I think, in many ways, that’s a fair and expected reaction - especially in crypto. We get so used to seeing scams and rug pulls that everyone goes on ultra high alert when something like this happens. I have as many questions as you do - no doubt about that. While I wait for answers, here are some the inputs that I have picked up along the way: It’s been a brutal bear market and so many projects (including some good ones) have simply shut down and disappeared. That’s not what’s happened here. This is a “takeover”, a capital injection. Deep diligence was done. There’s significant resources behind this move. Network is running as normal. Token price did take a hit yesterday, but we were already in a correction from recent local highs. Difficult say which of those two events impacted more. Many have question the timing of this, so shortly after the successful launch of PoD on Avalanche. COTI_ship made a good observation that this was most likely a milestone that triggered the takeover. It wouldn’t be unusual to have milestones in effect for these type of deals. The announcement on the “30 day Campaign” is an initiative from the new team, and still stands as far as I am aware. Having said that, there are still way too many gaps for my liking - and that of pretty much everyone else as well. I look forward to hearing more from @RobbieVdg and his team in the coming days and hopefully they will be able to steady things a bit. Lastly, on a personal note. I suspect (but nothing confirmed) my time as an ambassador for $COTI will be coming to an end, as a part of this process. You will obviously hear from me if that’s the case. Closing Points Under Shahaf's leadership, COTI built much of the technology and institutional foundation that makes this next phase possible.
