Sorry but if you think you’re “too self aware” for therapy you’re not as smart as you think you are and you still need therapy full shade

I never said I’m too self aware and don’t need therapy 😭 I just know my problems and it’s funny how my therapist reacts to me knowing things she tells me beforehand. I still use therapy for maladaptive habits and looking into the things I don’t know

I don't think anyone that thinks they're too self aware thinks they don't need therapy... just that it might be more difficult to get what they need out of it

like it literally takes self awareness to go to therapy and start changing for the better

Being too self aware means therapy tricks just don't work because you can see how the trick is done and you can't make yourself ignorant enough to believe it'll work

My therapist told me I knew too much and she genuinely didn’t think she could help me because I’m very self aware AND I practice therapy techniques AND I prioritize self care and mental health. You can be self aware all you want, but that doesn’t mean you still don’t need or can benefit from therapy.

being self aware just means you know you know

What's worse is if your therapist starts talking about how self-aware you are and how well adjusted you seem. Like yes I know I'm self aware that's how I know I need help. But somehow we end up talking about them instead of me.

Okay but that's not what the post is saying? OP is right, a lot of therapists seem to almost feel threatened by the patient understanding themselves. Often they want to be able to tell you what's wrong with you, so if you come in saying "tjis is what's wrong with me, can you

It's because they think therapy is just 1 epiphany then you are done not recognizing your problems and finding a way to address it.

Therapy enjoyers engaging in cosmic levels of self doubt to the point that they don't even believe in not needing therapy I guess.

It’s not that. It’s more so when you already intellectualize your feelings and can accurately explain what you feel, why you feel it, and how those feelings have impacted your behavior, some therapists don’t know where to go from there. Talk therapy isn’t helpful for those

It’s not that they think they’re too self aware for therapy. It’s the fact that most therapist have a certain script that doesn’t actually help them get to the root of their problems. Also, being too álef aware for therapy isn’t about being smart, it’s about knowing why you do thing but not knowing how to stop yourself from doing it. Talk therapy typically isn’t enough.

well no shit sherlock, the problem is a lot of therapists refuse to try and help beyond simple CBT and go “oh well you seem very self-aware so you must be fine”

How so? I don’t think I’m too self aware btw, but you can’t just say stuff like this without backing it with logic. What if that is actually the case. Or are you implying that nobody can reach that level of self awareness?

Youre an idiot. Being self aware just means you know what your problems are and why they happen, doesnt mean you dont need therapy. But most therapists work via CBT therapy, which only works if you dont know what or why is happening, hence why we dont like therapy

"i am too self aware for therapy and also it obly works if you're iq is lesser that your therapist's is" or maybe you can just say that talk therapy is not for you and try another method

theyre not wrong though, a lot of therapists will just give up once they realise you understandwhy you do the things the way you do/why you are the way you are and wont even bother trying to plan to help those problems

im not sure if thats what they were referring to. i interpreted as when you know the symptoms you are experiencing, you tell the therapist, and they kinda do that “you’ve been doing your research” or wonder if you actually have what is stated or just saying what you read

Iirc theres been studies showing that if you have cptsd, traum talk therapies dont help and risk making things worse. So if you're too self aware, cbt wont help. Trauma specialized therapy like ifs helps.

I did therapy for four years and literally nothing came of it. It wasn't a therapist issue as I went through 5 and none of them helped for shit. I feel like you just don't understand that some people know themselves well.

Not what ts means at all dawg... lmao just starting shi "full shade" . Being self aware means you understand and recognize why you act certain ways, but you need work putting skills into practice and using them to stop repetitive learned behaviors.

Im too self aware for therapy, that doesnt make me smart. That makes therapy impossible for me because shes just telling me everything i already know and isnt actuslly helping. Shes like "you over intellectualize, you worry others hate you" that doesnt actually fix anything

I feel self awareness is more of an advantage in therapy imo as someone deeply aware of their issues. You KNOW what your problem is, so now you and the therapist can work together (emphasis on WORK TOGETHER) to resolve them. It won’t be easy, then again but getting help never is.

As someone with great self awareness, intellectualizing can indeed but a trauma response and not all types of therapy work for it. Somatic was best for me. But DBT works better for someone who can’t name their feelings.

EXACTLY. therapy isnt supposed to teach you what your problems are, its supposed to help you develop the coping skills to DEAL with those problems. i used to have this exact mindset and god i was so fuckin annoying
