Wild to hear @schrep is investing in data centers in the ocean. Makes sense: (V/Power Players With Brian Sozzi podcast @YahooFinance)

Today, China dominates rare-earth mining and processing. But that wasn’t always the case. Solcoa’s @hoomanrenezhad explains how the West lost its rare-earth mojo: "So contrary to popular belief, we do mine in the West. We have an enormous rare earth mine in Australia. There’s one in California." “The actual raw feedstock is not rare." “The bottleneck is what you do after it. It’s the processing. That is something that we’re completely unable to do in the West." “We actually invented these processes in America." "The technologies used to make rare earths in China today are American technologies from the Manhattan Project.” “We built this technology and these systems, and then we shipped it to China. China dominated. They matured it. They took over.” Now his company is trying to bring that capability back to the U.S. with a process built for today’s economics. “If we were just copying that same technology stack again, it was impossible. The economics don’t close.”

We must make the metals of power and motion.
We’ve secured $75M in financing to build Solcoa One, our first commercial rare earth metallization plant.

Proud to have backed @hoomanrenezhad from the very beginning. Cheaper, sovereign, cleaner all together in one
Today we're announcing $75M to build Solcoa One, our 500-tonne rare earth metallization plant in Nevada. At Solcoa, we believe rare earths are the foundation of America's next great industrial era. An era we intend to win on the merits, with superior American technology.

Replying to @jorodden @schrep
it's the lowest cost architecture at scale (independent of region). bc it's the least physical material per module, and able to be automated at a system level. the spread on that vs what is currently being done in the market is most acute in US so messaging focuses on what resonates there... but the gap exists everywhere.

Seen the results myself in person and it is impressive
At Rhoda, we care deeply about the science of pre-training for robotics. In one of the most rigorous studies of its kind, over thousands of trials and hundreds of hours of robot evaluations, we show how scaling web-video pre-training leads to better real-world robot performance.

This is sage the planted robot. Such an elegant and simple machine. Cheap steel pipe as the foundation - no concrete, no site prep. Much better land use - 2x the density. Plants grow under the panels so soil is retained. So cool

I've been trying to answer a very simple question: if panels are so cheap and only ~30% of the cost of a solar farm how do we slash the cost and time of building solar power. Our first (but not last!) investment from this deep dive is Planted. They build robots that make installation 2x as energy dense, faster, and cheaper - let me say a bit more...

What does all of this mean? Typically 2x energy density per acre. Much faster approvals. Cheaper. Use of land that couldn't otherwise be used. This is how you use clever technology to go faster.
