i fundamentally kind of reject the whole "men are the real yearners" thing thats been getting some traction lately, mainly on account of the fact that the current culture online and irl labels men who yearn "cucks" or "weak" so no, i don't believe that's true at all

yearning knows no gender, no sexuality, no bounds. it's a trait that can be part of us and leave at any moment. it manifests in different ways. but the reason it features in so many classics targeted at men and women is because there's that desire for that kind of love.

romance is probably seeing a massive surge in popularity because we live in a time so devoid of it. dating apps, lack of social spaces, a million stupid gendered rules and nitpicks have left us all desperate for some, any kind of love in our fiction.

I'll always appreciate any attempt to show difference of a quiet love, a loud one, a rowdy one, a peaceful kind. as many colours as a rainbow, and a million different expressions. greatly appreciate taking the time to spend an entire chapter moulding that form of love.

the way he's cradling her head, the fact that she's leaning into it, even feverish and spinning out, they're just so wonderful

oh, heart-breaking. brutal. what a gut punch. just every moment between them is filled with that tension and angst that makes you want more.
Sherlock-inspired Victorian era yuri? Say no more!

Beautiful chapter from top to bottom. I really appreciate that Ako and Tsumiki have specifically both gone out of their way to protect their friendship as well. But the stellar thing to me is this increasing tension of Yutaka and Tsumiki wanting to be "special" to each other.

There's been this increasing pressure build up (which has also felt like feet dragging due to the pacing prior to recent events) and it's nice seeing it expressed that way. The concept of "special" started around 91 and has become very central to these two spitting it out!

I think that there's been a bit of a misstep in pacing, because while I loved the mermaid arc, I do think having multiple successive spacing arcs (Sports, summer, etc) we've ground to a halt after taking a good step. I want to see these two more and more becoming comfortable!!

suffering and isolation are curses we inflict upon ourselves, sometimes out of a sense of feeling like we must suffer to succeed. feels like this sentiment might be what Machida is trying to explore.

it's fascinating because technically, Crocodile is limiting his ability by setting a phrase he hasn't said. but they also set in motion the series of events which leads to him finally finding his way free. fascinating, really!!

I guess if I had to tie into things that I know, it's like the idea of the second arrow. Suffering is self-inflicted. It is not judgemental, nor naturally occurring. When we hold onto it, it causes all the more harm.
