Well then, as a proud #Viennese I demand #Wienerisch to become an official language of the EU. It is a separate language, proven by the fact that no one understands it but Viennese.
Expressions such as Geh schleich di, Is des a Schmäh, Geh bitte, Na servas and Des geht si ned aus, hupf in Gatsch oida!, Verglüh! cannot be captured in German. Germans would not understand it.
Wienerisch also possesses all the attributes of a European institutional language. Vienna was, after all, the captal of a multilingual and multiethnic polity long before the EU was created.
Refusing official status to Wienerisch would therefore ignore both Europe’s cultural diversity and Austria’s historic contribution to bureaucratic complexity.
