I think the level of hysteria around the Man City case is becoming very weird. People genuinely acting like the Club has to be destroyed and sent to the shadow realm have lost the plot in my opinion. They weren’t found guilty of match fixing. They weren’t paying refs. This isn’t comparable to the Serie A scandal or Lance Armstrong. They saw an anti-competitive and unjust rule which only allowed the same 4 teams to dominate the League and said “no, we don’t want to wait decades to slowly build up revenues and have to sell our best players every time they do well to stop us from succeeding. We have the money, we’re not going to be irresponsible with Man City’s finances, we want to invest and compete now”. Again, the idea that every team other than 3/4 in the League has to go on a constant merry-go-round of “hey that player for you guys is really good, we’re going to just take him because you can’t invest any more of your own money and he would be wasted at a middling team like you” is wrong. It doesn’t help football in this country and the rules should change to allow these clubs to be bought by owners with even deeper pockets who can give those clubs and even higher chance of sustained success.

This has to be the most articulate and intelligent conversation I have heard on city and the financial irregularities. It’s factual and entirely without outrage or emotion which normally leads to nonsensical debate.

citeh allegedly cheated to the tune of £900 million. malaysians have had to shoulder about £9.5 BILLION, in 1MDB-related obligations. even after RM31.3 billion recovered, the net burden is still around £3.7 billion. i just wish jibby had bought citeh instead. would've been cheaper. and i'll be the one to say "malu apa boss ku" 😹

Listen carefully to Paul Gilroy KC: “This is not going to end.” And watch the faces of some journalists whenever the conversation moves away from the script they’ve been selling for years: verdict → punishment → end of story. That isn’t how this works. City have the right to appeal the Commission’s findings. That appeal goes before a new three-person panel. And if City believe the process itself was unfair or legally flawed, the High Court can potentially become part of the next chapter. This is why the punishment question matters too. Why rush to impose a potentially devastating sporting punishment while the underlying findings are still being challenged? Imagine City being hit with a huge points deduction, relegation or another sporting sanction only for the appeal to subsequently overturn or materially alter the findings. You cannot simply give City back the season they lost. You cannot give back points. You cannot undo relegation. You cannot reverse the competitive damage suffered while an ultimately flawed decision was being enforced. Even legal experts have questioned the logic of proceeding with sanctions before an appeal that could fundamentally change the outcome. So no, City aren’t going to “take it lying down.” Like Everton and Nottingham They’ve already said they will be “relentless” in the appropriate regulatory and legal forums. It may take another season. Five seasons. Longer. Unless they reach a settlement And those celebrating today should remember one simple thing: A first-instance decision is not necessarily the final chapter.

💡Paul Scholes has just asked the question United fans don’t want to answer. 👀 How can City be condemned for building a football club AND investing heavily around Manchester, while the Glazers have extracted money from United and left the club carrying enormous debt? If spending and financial sustainability are supposedly about protecting English football, then why is debt not treated with the same outrage when it sits on the other side of Manchester? United fans can’t celebrate City’s punishment while pretending their own club’s financial model is beyond scrutiny. Scholes isn’t defending City. He’s exposing the hypocrisy of the debate. If the rules are about protecting football, they have to apply consistently not selectively.
