Tweeting off junks in my head

Exclusive: Shabana Mahmood is fighting a rearguard action to save her migration reforms in the face of mounting public criticism from cabinet colleagues The home secretary is under pressure to water down her plans to make it harder for foreign workers to claim permanent residence Andy Burnham, the prime minister, is considering exempting care workers from plans to extend the qualifying period for claiming indefinite leave to remain (ILR) from five years to 15 years However, the Home Office has argued that the move could backfire because it could lead to an exodus of foreign care workers from their jobs once they gained permanent residence and were no longer bound by the terms of their visas A senior ally of Mahmood said she retained Burnham’s broad support over the plans: “Andy has been on Shabana’s side throughout this row over ILR. He is holding the line.” thetimes.com/article/1a6e1a3…

My work is my primary source of income. It is not my primary source of human interaction, exploration, joy, nor fulfillment - I get those from a wide variety of other sources. Not feeling this take.
My strongest “vibes not evidence” belief is that remote work is a cancer that’s making (most) people miserable even though it seems better in the short term.

Dear men, Stop chasing women who are deliberately denying you access to your children after separation or divorce. If the court has failed to enforce contact, do not spend the next decade exhausting yourself, your money, and your peace trying to force what she is determined to withhold. Irresponsible men are rarely treated this way. They are not denied access because they do not fight for it. They walk away easily. The men who get punished with prolonged denial are usually the ones who actually want to be present. If you fear a woman will weaponise children against you, then do not build your entire fatherhood with one woman. Marry another and have children with her as well. It is difficult for two women to simultaneously weaponise children against the same man unless the man himself is the actual problem. Your children will grow. They will ask questions. They will look for you. Many of them eventually find the parent who was kept from them once they are old enough to see beyond one narrative. Do what the law allows. Document everything. Stay available. But stop bleeding for access that is being used as a weapon. Your dignity and stability matter. The truth has a longer lifespan than control.

When I go into the office every room is full of people who are working from home in the office. Headsets on, Teams open. No one chats, there is no socialization or team comradery. Office culture is dead
A lot of workplace culture died after Covid and never recovered. Yes, working from home is probably bad for you as a whole - but I’ve noticed in my own workplace that nobody uses the environment as a social launchpad anymore - which should be its biggest utility. I remember in pre Covid times there were at least moments of serendipitous fun. In this post Covid era rife with economic pessimism, I get the sense that people are generally afraid to take any sort of liberties in the workplace, even if it’s something as benign as taking a long lunch. Fridays used to have a good energy to them. Now I dread them. You can hear a pin drop in my office most Fridays. Small talk has been killed in the name of productivity. I know this isn’t all workplaces but I have a feeling I’m not alone here. If you’re lucky enough to work somewhere that hasn’t been managed-to-death, count your blessings. Otherwise I am forced conclude that working from home is the lesser evil, even if not by much.

Folks are taking pay cuts to WFH. Significant pay cuts. Folks are refusing positions with higher salaries to stay WFH. I’ll never be tricked by in-office propaganda.
I hate the “WFH is depressing” talk. What’s actually depressing is 2 unpaid hours of commuting every day, getting home already exhausted, and having 4 hours left for cooking, sleeping, and getting ready to do it all again.

Office people will never shut the fuck up about people who WFH while people who WFH do not give a single fuck about people who go to the office.
This may sound harsh, but I feel like this push that working in office is better than WFH is done entirely by people who have no lives or social circles outside their jobs.

The internet will teach you how to win against your husband, but it will not teach you how to live with the consequences of losing your marriage.

People who want to work in the office need someone to be there with them. If I want to work from home, I have to find a job that aligns with that. They need to do the same. The worst thing you can do is drag me to the office because Bob who hates his wife needs a friend.
The fact that so many people prefer WFH, prioritizing instant gratification at the cost of better long term outcomes, is in fact evidence that most adults are children.

WFH forces you to have a social life outside of work. That’s scary for a lot of losers. Especially married people that want to get away from their family and kids.

This individual is why Sharia law must not be allowed in Yorubaland. People with undiagnosed psychopathic conditions should not be allowed to have any legal power over sane human beings under the garb of theocracy. For Nigeria to survive, it must intentionally crush religious extremism and wahabism in particular or else we are doomed in Nigeria.
But AYO, don’t you think the punishment is extreme? Truly, your concerns are valid. But I want you to know that the word “extreme” is a relative term. It is not absolute. And you cannot define what is extreme until you establish the baseline you are measuring from. The reason you keep saying it is extreme is because you are using a Western ruler to measure an Islamic legal system. In the secular framework, the highest possible value is individual liberty and physical life. That is, liberty and life comes before the religion. From that baseline, taking a human life for a non violent sexual act is viewed as an extreme punishment. They believe that if there is no physical victim, the state has no business ending a life. However, in the Islamic legal compass, the highest priority is the protection and sanctity of the religion. Our servitude to the Almighty comes first, even before our own life. Islam believes we are not here on our own. We are here on a purpose, which is to worship the Almighty. Now when you compare these two worldviews, you will see the glaring difference in the moral compasses and why you feel the judgment is extreme. From the Islamic standpoint, it is the crime itself that is extreme. Read that again. This is because bypassing private hotel rooms to commit an act of severe sexual immorality right inside the most guarded sanctuary on earth is an extreme violation. It is an unthinkable level of spiritual treason. So, when an offender commits an extreme violation of a state ultimate sacred boundary, a competent court will mostly likely respond with the maximum deterrent. You only think the punishment is extreme because your secular moral compass refuses to accept the weight of the crime. When you understand the hierarchy of laws that I established above, you will realize the ruling based on their framework, is not extreme. It is proportional. This is the difference. You don’t agree. Fine. But that’s their legal view point. And do you think it is also fair to impose your own emotions on their jurisdiction?

Omo!
You are asking what changed because you see married couples showing affection in Makkah. Nothing changed.  1) They are not a couple. This is just social media noise. I have credible intel from my source in Saudi Arabia. The authorities see married people showing affection all the time without issues. These two are married to different people, which makes them adulterers. 2) They were not executed because they kissed. They engaged in severe sexual acts. What they did is way more than kissing. People are hanging onto the kissing rumor to make the offense look less grievous. 3) They were not able to prove ignorance. In Islamic jurisprudence, genuine ignorance of a law or boundary gives room for mercy and a softer landing. The fact that they could not establish ignorance shows their intent was deliberate. 4) They were tried under a court of competent jurisdiction and they freely confessed. They were not coerced. About 12 judges were present during the proceedings. The evidence against them was too weighty for them to receive a lighter punishment. Every country has its own rules and laws. This is why I tell people to always obey the rules and laws of your host country. Do not protest. Do not flout public orders. Do not test the boundaries of a foreign legal system. You cannot import your own moral compass and force it on theirs. When you cross a border, your feelings no longer dictate the law. Let’s stick to the facts.
