Proud to contribute to @guardian's coverage of BC's deliberate approach to implementing #UNDRIP which sets a global precedent for Indigenous rights. This is the leadership we need.

As an Anishinaabe scholar and member of the UN Expert Mechanism on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples (EMRIP), I’ve witnessed firsthand the challenges nations face in turning symbolic commitments into real, actionable change.
This is a model for other governments across the world to follow, demonstrating that meaningful reconciliation is not just about words but about changing the structures and systems that have historically excluded Indigenous voices. BC’s progress is inspiring.
BC is leading the way, taking intentional and deliberate steps to share decision-making power with Indigenous Peoples, especially over critical land-use matters such as forestry, mining, and resource management.
Delighted to add my voice to FNs leaders in support of BC's approach to implementing the UN Declaration in this article. BC enhances democratic and egalitarian collaboration among First Nations, government, and industry. thewalrus.ca/the-dark-cloud-… via @thewalrus
States should take measures to ensure that #IndigenousPeoples in voluntary isolation & initial contact enjoy the necessary conditions to preserve their way of life, cultural values & ethnic identity, as enshrined in the #UNDRIP! #IndigenousPeoplesDay

This is a huge win! ✊🏾
