Container ship or Ro-Ro? Why not both? â
One of Transfennicaâs Trafexpress-class ConRo vessels: 205 m long, 639 TEU, 2,950 lane metres and around 23 knots. Designed to carry containers, trailers and a wide range of general cargo.
The sea is vast, yet ships can still collide.
Safety at sea is not just about distance. Itâs about the right course, the right decision and the right reaction at the right moment.
Would you still choose the sea? âď¸
The chains and lines on deck are part of a major offshore operation.
Such equipment is used for anchor handling, towing, mooring and subsea operations.
Handling tonnes of chain safely and precisely requires serious engineering, coordination and teamwork.
GIANTS IN DRY DOCK â
MSC ANNAM in dry dock for inspection and maintenance of her underwater hull, propeller, rudder and shaft system.
What happens beneath the waterline?
CMA CGM BIG SUR passing beneath Hong Kong's Tsing Ma Bridge.
366 m long and capable of carrying around 15,000 TEU, this modern containership is powered by LNG dual-fuel technology.
Is this the future of pilot boats?
Artemis Technologiesâ 100% electric EF-12 uses hydrofoil technology to glide above the water.
This video shows a first contact test as the boat comes alongside another vessel.
â Electric. Hydrofoil. Pilot transfer.
â YUAN FU transiting the strait!
Built in 2024, this bulk carrier measures approximately 200 m long and 32 m wide, with a deadweight capacity of 61,646 tonnes.
What matters more during a strait transit: vessel size or experience?
Ro-Ro Safety in Focus
Fire broke out aboard BLUE CARRIER 2 north of Mykonos, carrying 29 people and 195 vehicles.
All passengers and crew were safely evacuated with no injuries reported. The fire reportedly started on the vehicle deck. Investigation is underway.
If you were a marine pilot, how would you prefer to board a vessel?
Pilot boat & pilot ladder
Helicopter transfer
In this operation, the pilot is transferred from a helicopter to the vessel by winch.
Which method would you choose?
A mooring operation to secure a ship to a bollard on the quay⌠â
Our seafarer swings the line, gives it another try, but it just wonât land where it needs to! đ
How many attempts do you think itâll take him to get it right?
â ď¸ Crane collapse at Keelung Port, Taiwan.
A ship-carried crane made contact with a shore-side gantry crane during berthing, causing the shore crane to topple.
A stark reminder of the importance of safe berthing plans and precise maneuvering in confined port waters.
The structures carried on this vessel appear to resemble ship-to-shore (STS) gantry cranes used at container terminals.
Transporting equipment of this scale requires careful engineering and secure cargo fastening.

Waiting in the Kiel CanalâŚ
The vessels are inside the lock, waiting for the water level to equalize with the other side. Once the levels are balanced, the gates will open and the passage will begin
At sea, sometimes you have to wait for the water to rise or fall before moving on
Unusual traffic at the Port of Santos!
The Brazilian Navy submarine Tikuna (S-34) was captured cruising on the surface through the port channel.
A submarine among merchant ships⌠definitely not something you see every day.
Two massive ships, one collisionâŚ
On April 1, VOSCO PROSPER and PELITA MUSTIKAWATI collided at Chattogram anchorage.
VOSCO PROSPER suffered serious bow damage, including below the waterline.
What do you think caused this collision?
Not every giant reel you see at sea carries cable.
This is SEVEN VEGA, a reel-lay vessel. At 149 m long, she features a massive 32 m diameter main reel with a 5,600-ton capacity.
Her mission: laying subsea pipelines in water depths of up to 3,000 m.
At first glance, it looks like a ship carrying another ship! đ˘
This is BOLDWIND, a 148.5 m heavy-lift vessel. The huge white structures on deck are wind turbine tower sections, transported on her specially reinforced deck for wind energy projects.
ARIADNE is a 130-meter specialized Cable Laying Vessel.
Equipped with 5,000 + 4,000-ton cable carousels, DP-3 positioning, a 250-ton crane and a work-class ROV capable of operating at depths of up to 3,000 meters.
