C.J. Stroud is playing the best football of his career six weeks into the 2026 season. He hasn't just returned to his rookie-year form, he's leveled up 🧵

After three-straight seasons near league average, Stroud is now the league's most efficient QB against the blitz: EPA per play 2023 -> 2026: +0.01 (14th) -> +0.40 (1st) 📈 He is diagnosing the extra rushers, getting rid of the ball quickly and completing downfield.

He's also improved against pressure every year of his career: EPA per play 2023 -> 2026: -0.51 (26th) -> -0.26 (13th)📈 When the rush does arrive, he's getting rid of the ball quicker while avoiding negative plays and giving his receivers chances to make plays.

Stroud has recaptured what made him great as a rookie: - Excelling from a clean pocket - Throwing deep and connecting (14.6% deep target rate ranks 8th) - Targeting and producing in the middle of the field (+0.41 EPA per play ranks 11th) - Limiting turnovers

And he's done all this without much help from the defense or the run game: - Defense is allowing 6.4 more PPG than last year - Run game is one of the league's worst Stroud reportedly turned down an extension offer this past offseason to bet on himself. That bet is paying off.

Saw the clip where Travis Hunter explains how he “fake stumbles” when undercutting a route to trick QBs into throwing the ball - he says he intentionally squats low and leans over looking off center to make it seem like he tripped or got caught slipping on a route. Went back and realize he did it to CJ Stroud on the EndZone interception and Stroud realizes what happened immediately. x.com/NFL/status/21118581287…
