I MAKE $91,000 A YEAR AND I STILL CAN'T GET AHEAD.
After taxes, 401k and health insurance, I take home about $5,100 a month.
Mortgage, car payment, insurance and student loans eat $4,200.
That leaves me $900 a month.
For someone with a "good job" and a degree.
That $900 still has to cover groceries, gas, kids' stuff, the dentist, the car when it inevitably breaks, and whatever bill shows up out of nowhere.
I did everything they said.
Get the degree.
Get the better job.
Buy the house.
Max the retirement account.
Never miss a payment.
I did all of it.
I'M STILL ONE BAD MONTH AWAY FROM A CREDIT CARD.
