Last week the @Eurofi meetings have taken place in Dublin. I was scheduled to attend as I had a number of bilateral meetings but also planned to participate on a high-level panel on tokenisation. Alrhough I had to cancel my participation at the last minute as I was informed that I will no longer continue at @CySEC_official, the article that I sent earlier has appeared on the @Eurofi magazine. This is a topic that I have been writing and discussing about for almost a decade so it is close to my heart. The benefits are known - reduction of operational costs, improved market efficiency, mitigation of settlement risks, enhanced access to investment opportunities, facilitate more efficient cross-border distribution and support deeper market integration and the objectives of the #SIU. Realising the full potential of this technology will require investment, legal certainty and coordinated action across both the public and private sectors. At the same time, as tokenised markets continue to evolve, it is essential that innovation is underpinned by sound governance arrangements, robust risk management practices and an effective regulatory framework that safeguards market integrity, investor protection and financial stability. Speaking about regulatory frameworks, the EU has established one of the most comprehensive regulatory frameworks globally for digital finance and tokenised markets (MiCA, MiFID II, DORA, DLT Pilot Regime). The scaling-up of tokenised markets though has so far remained limited partly due to interoperability challenges. My conclusion is that the potential is there and as the EU advances towards deeper capital market integration and greater digitalisation of financial services, it will be important to ensure that innovation develops within a framework that safeguards financial stability, protects investors and preserves confidence in the financial system.
