A century-old book just said our mission back to us. This quote turned up recently, tucked in a book written a hundred years before we ever put "better preaching" into words. A professor, decades ahead of us, making the same case: good preaching may be beyond us. But better preaching? That's within reach of every one of us. Is there a quote or idea that's shaped how you think about preaching? Share it with us in the comments! 📖 Excerpt from: For We Have This Treasure The Yale Lectures on Preaching, 1943 Paul Scherer, Minister of the Lutheran Church of the Holy Trinity, New York City #BetterPreachingEverywhere #CharlesSimeonTrust

Preachers spend countless hours studying the gospel. But is it functionally central to their preaching and their lives? That’s the question Mike Bullmore explores in “The Heart of Preaching.” Drawing on 25 years of pastoral ministry, he helps preachers see the gospel shape not only their sermons but their whole Christian life, with practical advice for sermon preparation, delivery, and planning. Meet Marjorie, Associate Director of Women’s Initiatives at Charles Simeon Trust! For her, learning to get to the heart of a passage changed how she reads and lives out God’s Word. Now she helps others do the same. Since joining the team in 2022, Marjorie has taught at Workshops around the globe, trained instructors and small group leaders, and helped plan the Chicago Course on Preaching Intensive for Women. She and her husband planted churches in Nashville, Tennessee, and San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. When she’s not training Bible teachers, you’ll find her hiking, traveling, or spending time with family and friends. Thank you, Marjorie, for all you do to strengthen the Church. Join us in thanking Marjorie for all she does in the comments! #BetterPreachingEverywhere #CharlesSimeonTrust #TeamSpotlight #WomenInMinistry #BibleTeaching

Girem Esdrelon and Lynne Pueblos-Busime teach women at a church plant in Cebu, Philippines. After their husbands attended a Workshop on Biblical Exposition, Girem and Lynne learned the same Bible study tools and began passing them on. So when the first Workshop for women was held in Manila, they jumped at the chance to attend. Bit by bit, better Bible reading habits are becoming part of the culture at Apologia Gospel Church. “We’re growing our seriousness in reading the Scriptures,” Girem says. Pray with us that Bible teachers across the Philippines “will grow, be faithful in handling the Word, and have increasing love for Christ.” Read the full story: simeontrust.org/a-short-word… #BetterPreachingEverywhere #CharlesSimeonTrust #ExpositoryPreaching #BibleLiteracy

So thankful for the last three days at the Charles Simeon Trust Preaching Workshop! It was a challenging, stretching, and encouraging time of growing in faithfully handling God’s Word. I highly recommend attending a workshop in your area or online! @simeontrust

Every preacher knows the weight of stepping into the pulpit. What we say on Sunday is shaped by who we are Monday through Saturday. Faithful exposition begins with getting the text right, but it doesn’t end until we’ve applied it to ourselves. A life of integrity is what gives the message its power. These words are from R. Kent Hughes on 2 Corinthians. Save this for your next week of sermon prep, and share it with a friend in ministry. #BetterPreachingEverywhere #CharlesSimeonTrust #ExpositoryPreaching #PreachingTraining

What a gift to gather with nearly 50 Chicago Course on Preaching alumni and students at Union Tabernacle Baptist Church! Walter Carter III, known around the CST as Supe, is one of our instructors at the Chicago Course on Preaching and preaches with the same conviction he brings to the classroom. Ask his students, they will tell you. In this passage from Matthew 6, he reminds us that worry adds nothing to our lives, but our Father already knows exactly what we need. Meet Nicolás Osorio! He pastors Iglesia Bautista Renacer in Bogotá, Colombia, and has served as CST's Associate Director of Spanish-Language Initiatives since May 2018, planning and leading our Workshops across South America and supporting our Online Courses. Pastor Godfrey Thulani Chigumbura came to last month's Workshop in Johannesburg to sharpen his preaching. His biggest takeaway was a call to godly character. "We're not just professionals," he says. "God is ministering to us... From that fruit, then, we are able to share with others." He's now planning to bring more pastors from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe to next year's Workshop. See how God is shaping pastors around the globe, and pray with us that they keep watch over their teaching and their lives.
