A few years ago, Shayne Nyquvest was behind a company called Universal Ibogaine. The stock traded around 3c when he first called me about it. He called me out of the blue one day: "Steve, I got a deal for you. I'll give you 5% of the company… if you can get Keanu Reeves to be our CEO." Shayne was a little crazy, and sure, he wanted to make money on the stock. But he also deeply believed ibogaine could help people. I told him I'd see what I could do, and went back to my Swiss Chalet. Puzzled. I didn't know Keanu. And if I did, he'd have politely declined. Shayne passed away in December, 2023. The stock was then halted last February. I never knew Shayne all that well. But I think about him every time I see the news about the Trump administration pushing ibogaine forward. Sometimes you're not wrong. You're just early. I'm sad he didn't get to see it through.
