BREAKING: The US government just closed out fiscal year 2026 having added $2.46 TRILLION in new debt.
Total US national debt now stands at a record $40.1 trillion.
That's $7.1 BILLION of new debt every single day over the last 12 months.
The US crossed $39 trillion on March 17th, then $40 trillion just 154 days later, on August 18th.
Since November 2024, the debt has gone from $36 trillion to $40 trillion.
Meanwhile, interest on that debt is running at a record $1.25 trillion a year, more than the US spends on national defense.
In other words, interest alone now equals roughly HALF of everything the US borrows.
