𝗖𝗥𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗖𝗔𝗟 𝗜𝗡𝗖𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗡𝗧 𝗩𝗜𝗗𝗘𝗢 𝗥𝗘𝗟𝗘𝗔𝗦𝗘𝗗: The Santa Monica Police Department has released its Critical Incident Community Debriefing Video regarding the fatal officer-involved shooting that occurred on August 22, 2026, in Palisades Park near the 1400 block of Ocean Avenue. According to SMPD, officers were responding to a reported domestic violence incident when a man who was not involved in the original call approached officers armed with a knife. Police said officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the knife and attempted to create distance before one officer fired. The man was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. The newly released video includes body-worn-camera footage, audio and other information gathered during the preliminary investigation. CANCELED: Ocean Way Festival Called Off Following Storm Damage The inaugural Ocean Way Festival, scheduled for Sept. 26–27 on Santa Monica Beach, has been canceled following significant beach erosion and storm impacts associated with Hurricane Marie. According to the City of Santa Monica, powerful surf over Labor Day weekend removed enough sand that the required shoreline safety setback would have shifted 96 feet inland. Rain and runoff from the Pico-Kenter Storm Drain also affected the southern portion of the planned festival site, further reducing the amount of usable beach. City officials determined the remaining area could not safely accommodate the festival infrastructure and expected crowds. The event was set to feature The Killers, Olivia Dean, Jack White, Khruangbin, Sublime and other performers. The City and Goldenvoice say plans are already underway to bring Ocean Way Festival back to Santa Monica in 2027.
