All U.S. Special Operations Command North activities in Greenland will now fall under the overarching operational name “Operation Apex Indigo” and will be conducted in close coordination with the Kingdom of Denmark.  These activities are designed to enhance extreme cold-weather survival, improve mobility into remote areas, and expand interoperability with fellow NATO Arctic nations.

On September 11, we honor the lives lost 25 years ago in the face of unimaginable tragedy. This week, NORAD and USNORTHCOM hosted Mr. Michael Buemi, Deputy Assistant Secretary of War for Counternarcotics and Global Threats, at our headquarters on Peterson Space Force Base. During his visit, Mr. Buemi engaged with command leadership, key staff planners, and intelligence specialists, as well as Special Operations Command North (SOCNORTH), to discuss synchronized defense efforts. Discussions focused on strengthening our counter-transnational criminal organization (CTCO) supporting operations, activities, and investments, and enhancing intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) support. Transnational criminal networks present a complex challenge to North American security.
