More technical details about the attack
The attacker deployed a program that could delegate a manufactured account representing the user’s deposit. Within the same transaction, the attacker delegated the account, which made it a signer owned by the delegation program, and then passed it as the buffer account for undelegation in a sibling instruction.
During undelegation, the account data is temporarily copied to a buffer PDA. Ownership of the undelegated PDA is then restored to its original owner, after which the data is copied back from the buffer.
The affected macro injected checks into the code to enforce that the buffer account was a signer and was owned by the delegation program. These checks were necessary but not sufficient because the macro did not verify that the buffer was the expected PDA derived from the correct seeds. This allowed the attacker to use the manufactured delegated account as the undelegation buffer.
