@spann Oak Mountain State Park fire update: southern ridge, roughly a mile east of Peavine Falls. It was active earlier this week; I reported it Tuesday and was told local FD was on scene. Today it flared up again and is producing the heaviest smoke yet.

TROPICS: In the eastern Pacific, Polo is forecast to approach the west coast of the Baja California peninsula tomorrow as a hurricane, and a Hurricane Warning is in effect for that region.
Tropical storm conditions could reach portions of the coast as soon as tonight or early tomorrow, making further preparations difficult. These conditions will
likely spread across Baja California through tomorrow and into mainland Mexico on early Tuesday. A storm surge is likely, especially in areas of onshore winds.
Heavy rainfall associated with Polo may begin to impact Baja California Sur later tonight into Tuesday and portions of Sonora late tomorrow into Tuesday. This rainfall may produce life-threatening flooding and mudslides, especially in areas of steep terrain.
Moisture from Polo will support heavy rainfall and flooding potential across the Southwest U.S. into the Southern High Plains late tomorrow into Tuesday.

*Heat levels rise across Alabama this week; many communities will see 90 degree heat by Wednesday and Thursday.
*The upper ridge breaks down by the weekend, opening the door for scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms Saturday and Sunday. It won't rain all weekend, but occasional rain and a few thunderstorms are likely. Rain amounts could exceed two inches in many places.
*Cooler air arrives for the following week (October 5-9)... highs drop into the 70s, with lows in the 50s and 60s.

IN THE SKY LAST NIGHT… It was a very interesting night last night for Skywatchers…
*It was the night of the full Harvest Moon
*There was a meteor/fireball seen across the Deep South around 6:45p CT.
*A high altitude research balloon around 62,000 feet off the ground was seen over the southeast part of the state (around Dothan).
*A flaming object was seen over Cullman and Hartselle around 10:15 CT. Most likely this was a skydiving pyrotechnic night jump. The aircraft involved coordinates specialized night dives where skydivers trail bright, burning pyrotechnic flares as they descend.
These events were not related…
