Nigel Farage has built his pitch for government around moving at extraordinary speed, declaring a national emergency, cancelling parliamentary recesses and removing civil servants who stand in his way. But leaked Reform guidance for councillors running adult social care gives almost the exact opposite advice: “Don’t rush into big changes.”

Kate Garraway and Ranvir Singh wanted some basic answers from Lee Anderson about Reform UK's handling of a funding controversy. The Reform chairman defended the party and repeatedly stressed that it was taking the allegations seriously. However, one detail about the inquiry proved unexpectedly difficult to explain. The exchange became one of the more uncomfortable interviews of Reform's funding row.

The reception had around 70 guests and brought together familiar figures from Reform and the right-wing media world. But according to MacKenzie, it was Graham who ended up stealing the show after an alleged microphone struggle, an aborted speech and a second confrontation later in the evening.

Reform insiders reportedly expect the parliamentary standards commissioner to rule against Nigel Farage over his undeclared £5m gift. The party is preparing to appeal any adverse decision. A sufficiently serious sanction could ultimately trigger another recall petition in Clacton.

MacKenzie’s account paints an extraordinary picture of the reception at the Shard. As Graham allegedly struggled with former Reform chairman David Bull over a microphone, Farage is said to have looked on and concluded: “Mike’s out of control.”

Nigel Farage has repeatedly insisted there is “no case to answer” over the £5 million payment he received personally from Reform donor Christopher Harborne. But senior Reform figures reportedly now expect Parliament’s standards commissioner to find against him and are already discussing how to appeal the decision before it has even been formally announced.

The latest UK polling suggests Britain's political landscape is changing again. A new Ipsos survey puts Labour on 32%, the Conservatives on 24% and Reform UK on 20%, giving Andy Burnham's party an eight-point lead. Opinium also gives Labour an eight-point lead, although that survey has Reform in second place. Four of the six most recent national polls place the Conservatives ahead of Reform, suggesting Kemi Badenoch's party is recovering some of the support it previously lost. Perhaps the biggest concern for Nigel Farage is that only 19% of respondents to the Ipsos survey believe Reform is ready to form the next government.

Andy Burnham’s Labour has surged to 32% in the latest Ipsos poll, while Reform has dropped another three points to just 20%. Farage’s party is now behind the Conservatives in four of the six latest national polls, while confidence that Reform is ready to govern has fallen to just 19%.

Cunningham had been sent onto national television to defend Reform against allegations serious enough to be assessed by the Electoral Commission and Metropolitan Police. Her opening problem was admitting she had not watched the entire investigation. Chorley’s response was brutal: how can you insist no rules were broken when you have not watched all the footage?

Prime Minister Andy Burnham is preparing to double government spending on tackling rough sleeping, with an additional £432 million expected to be announced in Wednesday's Budget. The extra investment will take the total funding available to nearly £900 million as Burnham attempts to deliver his promise of ensuring that everyone sleeping rough in England is offered a safe route off the streets or appropriate support by Christmas. The plans include emergency accommodation, specialist outreach teams and greater cooperation between councils, housing associations, charities and businesses. The National Housing Federation is working to identify at least 2,000 potential homes and bed spaces, with additional accommodation already being developed in Coventry and further provision planned elsewhere. Housing charities have welcomed the investment but warned that lasting progress will require more affordable homes and sustained support for people leaving homelessness.

A disagreement has emerged at the heart of Andy Burnham's government over whether to approve the controversial Rosebank oilfield in the North Sea. Chancellor John Healey is reported to favour allowing the project to proceed, arguing that Britain must protect its energy security, jobs and investment. However, Energy Secretary Miatta Fahnbulleh, who is responsible for the decision, has indicated that she is leaning towards rejecting the development. The division comes just days after the government approved Shell's smaller Jackdaw gasfield, angering environmental campaigners who argue that further fossil fuel extraction is incompatible with Britain's climate commitments. Rosebank would be a substantially larger development, making its fate particularly important to the oil and gas industry. No final government decision has yet been announced, leaving Labour facing a difficult choice between competing economic and environmental priorities.

Should a political party be allowed to call its own employees “journalists”? Reform is advertising for presenters, journalists and editors to staff the new operation. But the party itself would control the editorial priorities, staffing and output. Is someone still a journalist if their employer is the political party they are supposed to scrutinise? thedailybritain.co.uk/farage…
