NEWS RELEASE: Second Person Charged in Connection with Stolen Suni Lee Statue A second person has been charged in connection with a stolen bronze statue of Olympic gold medalist gymnast Suni Lee. At approximately 12:30 a.m. on August 28, 2026, officers responded to a residence on the 900 block of Forest Street following reports of shots fired. A search warrant was obtained and officers recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from inside the home. In addition, officers located the statue of Suni Lee, which had been reported stolen from Phalen Regional Park on July 31, 2025. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office charged Da’Shawn T. Caradine, 22, of Saint Paul, with felony receiving stolen property. Today, the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office also charged Tamica N. Bazinet, 44, of Saint Paul, with felony receiving stolen property. No arrests have been made in connection with the initial shots fired call at this time. # # #

HOMICIDE UPDATE The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim in Saturday’s homicide on the 600 block of Park Street as DeMarcus S. Gibson-Beard, 27, of Saint Paul. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has charged Alvin J. Smith, 20, of Saint Paul, with second-degree murder in relation to this homicide. There are no further updates at this time.

Morning Shooting Leaves One Dead in Saint Paul Just after 11:44 a.m. on Aug. 29, Saint Paul police officers were called to the 600 block of Park Street for multiple reports of a shooting. Officers arrived on scene and located an adult male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. Officers rendered first aid and called for Saint Paul Fire medics who transported the man to Regions Hospital. The man later passed away from his injuries. Officers set up a perimeter, launched a docked drone, and used police K9s to track down the potential suspect. At 12:23 p.m., the person of interest, an adult male, was taken into custody without incident. Our Forensic Services and Video Management Units will be processing the scene and looking for evidence that could help determine what happened. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office will conduct an autopsy to positively identify the victim and determine his exact cause of death. This information, along with any updates on the case, will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department X account, @sppdmn. This is the fourteenth homicide of 2026 in Saint Paul. # # #

NEWS RELEASE: Saint Paul Police Response to Shots Fired Call Leads to Recovery of Stolen Suni Lee Statue Shortly after 12:30 a.m. this morning, officers responded to a residence on the 900 block of Forest Street following reports of shots fired. On scene, officers located spent rifle casings outside of the multi-unit home. Officers made several announcements and multiple people exited the residence. Officers then conducted a protective sweep to ensure there were no victims or people in need of assistance still inside the residence. No additional individuals were located, and no injuries were reported. A search warrant was obtained and officers recovered multiple firearms and ammunition from inside the home. In addition, officers located the bronze statue of Olympic gold medalist gymnast Suni Lee, which was still intact. The statue had been reported stolen from Phalen Regional Park on July 31, 2025. An adult male was arrested and transported to the Ramsey County Jail for felony receiving stolen property in relation to the statue. No arrests have been made in connection to the shooting at this time. “Our city honored a great American, Minnesotan, and Saint Paulite, with a statue to celebrate her incredible achievements in multiple Olympic Games. Last year, disrespectful and shameless thieves decided to desecrate this tribute by stealing the statue from our community. I am happy to report that the statue of Suni Lee has been recovered thanks to our officers’ diligent response to what began as a shots fired call,” said Saint Paul Police Chief Axel Henry. Plans are underway to reinstall the statue at Phalen Regional Park in the near future. # # #

NEWS RELEASE: Man Arrested and Charged for Alleged Role in Commercial Burglaries A suspect has been arrested and charged for his alleged role in two recent commercial burglaries. Jason Lionel Wayne Gatrell, 29, of Saint Paul, is suspected of burglarizing The Gnome Craft Pub at 498 Selby Avenue on August 16 and attempting to burglarize The Lexington at 1096 Grand Avenue on August 17. On August 16, Saint Paul police officers responded to The Gnome Craft Pub following a report of a burglary. The owner stated the business had been broken into earlier that morning, resulting in approximately $1,300 in cash stolen and thousands of dollars worth of damage. The following morning, on August 17, Saint Paul police officers responded to an alarm call at The Lexington. Officers arrived on scene to find Gatrell attempting to break into the business. As officers took Gatrell into custody, he sprayed an officer in the face with pepper spray and attempted to disarm the officer of their taser. Today, the Ramsey County Attorney’s Office charged Gatrell with six counts, which includes second-degree burglary and fourth-degree assault of a peace officer. # # #

HOMICIDE UPDATE: Saint Paul police officers have arrested Jerry J. Harris, 37, of Saint Paul, in connection to an assault on August 3, 2026, that led to the death of Isaiah J. Wilson on August 7, 2026. The Ramsey County Attorney’s Office has charged Harris with one count of second-degree murder and one count of first-degree manslaughter.

* * * ENDANGERED MISSING PERSON ALERT * * * We need your help locating 14-year-old Zyaire Comer. Zyaire was last seen on July 26 near Maryland Avenue East and Prosperity Avenue. Officers have actively been searching for Zyaire since his family reported him missing to us. Zyaire’s family had thought he had been staying with friends but are now concerned that he hasn’t returned home after this extended period of time. Man Dies Days After Assault in Saint Paul Shortly after 6 p.m. on August 3, 2026, Saint Paul police officers were called to the 400 block of Dorothy Day Place to assist Saint Paul fire medics. Officers arrived on scene and determined that the person medics were treating had been assaulted. The victim, an adult male, sustained life-threatening injuries after being struck in the head. The victim was transported to Regions Hospital where he succumbed to his injuries on August 7, 2026. The Ramsey County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Isaiah J. Wilson, 61, of Saint Paul. At this time, no arrests have been made. Saint Paul police homicide investigators are working to determine what led to the assault. Anyone with information is asked to call 651-266-5650. Any updates on the case will be released on the Saint Paul Police Department’s Facebook and X accounts. This is the 13th homicide of 2026 in Saint Paul. # # #

Saint Paul Police Officers Involved in Shooting The @MnDPS_BCA is investigating after Saint Paul police officers were involved in a shooting the morning of Monday, August 10, 2026. At approximately 9:15 a.m., Saint Paul police officers responded to a domestic assault call on the 400 block of Temperance Street. Once on scene, the victim told officers the suspect, an adult male, had fled and was armed with a firearm. Saint Paul police officers, along with deputies from the Ramsey County Sheriff’s Office, located the suspect a short distance away outside Regions Hospital near the intersection of Jackson and East 12th Streets. As the man fled from law enforcement, he pulled out what appeared to be a handgun and pointed it at officers. A Saint Paul police officer fired their department-issued firearm, striking the man in the hand and back. Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect, who was brought inside Regions to be treated for non-life threatening injuries. No officers or bystanders were injured. Due to the nature of this incident, we asked the BCA to handle this investigation. Officer body-worn cameras were activated at the time of the incident. The BCA will review the video and other evidence as part of its investigation. The identity of the man will come from the BCA at a later time. The officers involved will be placed on administrative leave, which is standard procedure after an officer-involved shooting. No further information about this case is currently available. OFFICER-INVOLVED SHOOTING: At approximately 9:15 a.m., Saint Paul Police officers responded to a domestic assault call on the 400 block of Temperance Street. On scene, the caller told officers the suspect had fled and was armed. The suspect was located on the 200 block of East 12th Street, outside of Regions Hospital, where the encounter resulted in a shooting involving Saint Paul Police shortly before 9:30 a.m. Officers immediately rendered aid to the suspect, who’s currently being treated at Regions Hospital. No officers were injured. There is no threat to public safety. We have requested the @MnDPS_BCA to conduct the investigation into this incident. Watch here for updates and media availability.
