I promise you are not prepared for how bad the costume is
An apology from us: We pulled an offensive Halloween costume that should never have been part of our assortment. It is no longer for sale. As a company, we got this wrong, and we are deeply sorry. We know this is especially hurtful for our Black guests, team members and partners. Removing the costume is an important first step, and the company is looking closely at how this happened and what needs to change to ensure this won’t happen again.

It's just a fucking clown costume. Some people will always find a way to make everything race related... If the material used was white noone would bat a eyelid.

You can just say you're braindead and don't know what blackface means. It'll save everyone a lot of time.

Can you define blackface? Or do you not think it exists, and you're just too cowardly to say it outright?

Yeah it’s when minstrel performers in the Jim Crow era painted their faces black and played a black character. That’s what it is. Did you think that was some kind of gotcha? This is a child in a clown costume that you’re hysterical about.

Did blackface occur only in minstrel shows? No depictions of it can be found in advertising, newspapers, comics?

Those would either be depictions of the performers or caricatures of black people, which is obviously not blackface. It’s not correct to call rude or ugly depictions of black people “black face.” But that has nothing to do with this child in a clown costume.

Except when they are obviously using blackface imagery, like the exaggerated lips, bowler hat, etc.

If a white kid wore this, minstrel shows and blackface wouldn’t ever cross your mind. There’s only incidental similarity, but you types will get worked up into a frenzy at any accusation of racism, real or imagined. You’d be a great pitchfork wielding peasant in a mob.

Maybe, maybe not. You can't disprove a negative, so the fact you are resorting to it shows what a weak argument you have.

The alternative to my argument is losing it on social media because a company used a black child to model their scary clown costume. The average ghost costume is closer to a Klansman than this is to Jim Crow.
