These three rules form a simple but durable risk system for liquidity providing: cap pool exposure, lock in LP earnings, and ignore other LPs’ yield PNL.
Rule 1 is pool size discipline
Never put your entire portfolio into one liquidity pool. Use a maximum of 50% of the portfolio for any single LP position. One pool can suffer deep impermanent loss, a token depeg, a smartcontract incident, or a sudden volume collapse. The 50% cap is a hard ceiling, not a target. It leaves capital for other pools, cash, or a safer venue and stops the emotional “this farm is printing” all in.
Rule 2 is fee and reward banking.
Whenever you harvest trading fees, incentives, or realize a net gain after IL, move 50% of that profit to a separate wallet. That reserved slice is no longer available to add back into the same pool or to chase the next farm. If the remaining LP position goes underwater, you absorb the loss only with working capital still in the pool or in the trading wallet. You do not touch the 50% already secured. Over time you build two buckets: a growing reserve outside the AMM and an active LP book that can still take calculated pool risk.
Rule 3 is comparison hygiene.
Someone else’s huge APR or dollar profit usually came with a different pair (volatile vs stable), different lock or vesting, different IL path, or different size relative to their net worth. Measuring your LP results against theirs distorts allocation and often pushes you into thinner, riskier pools. Focus on your own process: capped size per pool, systematic withdrawal of half the harvested profit, and respect for funds already moved off the farm.
Together the rules create a ratchet for LPs. Exposure to any one pool stays bounded, harvested yield is systematically taken out of harm’s way, and external yield flex is filtered out.
The result is not the highest possible APR this week; it is surviving IL and protocol risk while compounding a protected reserve. That is the edge most liquidity providers never build.
