What a great gig at NYC Town Hall last night. Dave Beaney and i attended the same gig in 2025 at the Glasshouse in Newcastle and i have to say this knocked the socks off that night. Roger was relaxed and more at home in this intimate venue and dare i say it in this country. Like 2025 he spoke a lot to the crowd between songs with anecdotes and memories. My favourite songs in no particular order were Giving It All Away (Leo Sayer cover), The Boy in the Bubble (Paul Simon cover), Squeeze Box (The Who),Won't Get Fooled Again (The Who), Going Mobile (The Who) performed by Simon Townshend and As Long as I Have You (Garnet Mimms cover). Great renditions of Who Are You (The Who), Substitute (The Who), and one of my favourites from ‘McVicar’ soundtrack Waiting for a Friend (Billy Nicholls). Special mention to Katie Jacoby: Violin and Jody Linscott: Percussion who add so much to this show. Roger’s voice was the best i have ever heard it. He gets better with age. The auditorium has a great reputation and i can see why. The acoustics were great. The entrance is the only thing that lets this great venue down. Too packed with staff constantly battling to keep the area clear. Another 10/10 gig this year and in the ‘Big Apple.’ Another box ticked. Credit to Dave Beaney for the photo.

The ending of Everybody Hates Chris is a brilliant tribute to The Sopranos. Chris sits in a diner as his family arrives one by one. “Livin’ on a Prayer” replaces “Don’t Stop Believin’,” while Julius struggles to park outside. But instead of Tony waiting for Meadow, Chris is waiting for his GED results. Julius finally arrives with the envelope. Chris asks, “What’s it say?” And just like The Sopranos, the screen cuts to black. One show left us wondering whether Tony survived. The other left us wondering whether Chris passed his exam. Same diner. Same tension. Completely different stakes.
