On the first puṇyasmaraṇe of Dr. S. L. Bhyrappa, I would like to announce my humble attempt at spreading the love of reading his works. I'll be starting the SLB Edition of Saṃvācana, a book club I have been running since 2016. For a Kannadiga, reading Bhyrappa in translation can feel strange. His language is earthy, precise and deeply rooted in Kannada life. Yet his knack of storytelling is universal and translators too have carried his work far beyond Kannada. 19 novels now have English translations. This year, we begin with the best seller Aavarana translated by @dharmadispatch , Niraakarana (L.V. Shanthakumari & Arjun Bharadwaj) & Uttarakaanda (Rashmi Terdal). The 16th INDICA Meta Retreat on Indic Litarary Ecosystem brought together literary festival organisers, publishers, curators, writers, and ecosystem builders from across India to reflect on a shared question: How do we strengthen the ecosystems that shape how India reads, remembers, imagines, and narrates itself? Over two days of conversations, case studies, debates, and collaborative reflection, participants explored the origins of India's literary movements, the distinctiveness of their platforms, emerging challenges, opportunities for innovation, and the future of literary culture in a rapidly changing world. More than a discussion on books and festivals, the retreat examined the deeper civilisational role of literary ecosystems in preserving memory, nurturing dialogue, and enabling societies to think together.
