how Godard accidentally revolutionized film editing in 'Breathless' (1960): his rough cut was 45 minutes too long, and, instead of cutting whole sequences like Hollywood did, Godard violently cut out middle frames within the same shot. the modern jump cut was born. x.com/JohnBarkerATRM/status/…

33 years ago today, Richard Linklater’s ‘Dazed and Confused’ hit theaters. the ultimate hangout movie. zero forced plot, immaculate 70s atmosphere, and the feeling of endless youth captured on film. effortlessly rewatchable. every song feels like entering a time machine into the 70s. x.com/CinemaTweets1/status/1…

when shooting ‘Rashomon’ (1950), Akira Kurosawa and cinematographer Kazuo Miyagawa pointed the camera directly into the sun through tree canopies. at the time, this was strictly forbidden in cinema because studio manuals claimed direct sunlight would burn the physical film stock. the result changed cinematic lighting forever. this is also Akira Kurosawa’s best movie in my opinion and definitely worth watching. x.com/RadiantFilm/status/201…
