Westerners believe Japan is the safest country in the world because of high moral standards. That is a complete fantasy. Crime requires passion. To assault someone, you have to emotionally care enough about their existence to make physical contact. Japanese people simply do not possess the battery life to commit a felony. By 6:00 PM, the average Japanese adult does not have enough willpower left to mug you. We barely have enough energy to chew our dinner. We do not walk away from fights out of Buddhist peace. We walk away because throwing a punch would require opening a dialogue, and that is a fate worse than death. Americans have energy, so they fight. Japan has total spiritual exhaustion, so we have peace. Low crime is not morality. It is mass burnout disguised as civilization.

This is the kind of dark humor I am fine with, as the object of mockery is the perpetrating evil.
