I was shocked and really upset to learn about the death of Randy Picker of the University of Chicago law school. As a scholar, he was a pioneer of better understandings of the interactions between copyright law, antitrust and innovation. Before his death he was writing a giant history of American computing that is the only full history that captures both industry and government's role in the development of the industry; I heard a rumor that he managed to finish it. He was also a really supportive and curious guy. We were colleagues when I was an untenured visitor at the University of Chicago and taught a "law & innovation" seminar together.
