We’re excited to announce Akinlua Bolamigbe (@alobmtc) as a speaker at SysConf 2026! His talk is titled “When Workers Die: Leases, Checkpoints, and Durable Execution with Postgres.” Background jobs often fail at “awkward” boundaries. For example, a worker could call an external API successfully and then crash before the system records that the task was completed. Naive retries may prevent lost work, but could also repeat side effects. So how do we build durable execution? And further, how much of a durable workflow’s characteristics can we get as a library instead of setting up another platform? In this talk, Akinlua walks us through his attempt at answering those questions through a library he built (in both Rust & Go). He will discuss the mechanisms he built that enable durable execution such as a state machine, worker leases & reaping, retries & dead-lettering, atomic idempotency, coordinating workers using Postgres features and checkpointing, among others. He also highlights the limitations of the system, including where a failure window still exists. #SysConf #SysConf26

We’re excited to announce Peculiar Erhisohwode (@peculiarerhis) as a speaker at SysConf 2026! Her talk is titled “Mapping Deliverability: How We Rebuilt Chowdeck's Delivery Coverage with Polygons.” Before @peculiarerhis’s work, deliverability on @chowdeck was decided purely by distance, but this proved insufficient in the face of issues like flood, traffic or intermittently blocked roads. To address this, she built a more robust, layered deliverability-check flow, that used polygons to model deliverable areas and allowed the operations team to redraw the boundaries as various factors (like the aforementioned) changed. This talk focuses on the details of this implementation, including how a 4-week deadline impacted design decisions for the backbone that decides what Chowdeck can deliver today.
