“CSS-only Widgets Are Inaccessible”
adrianroselli.com/2023/03/cs…
Loosely, those CSS-only controls (such as a hamburger trigger that uses the checkbox hack) you see (from every Dribble build or Codepen contest) are generally a problem for many (1/2)
This NVDA updating has wasted an hour of my workday across multiple machines. What a Monday. I will give this to them: It does not break speech synthesizers or many major things, just annoyances if anything
Tried updating the manifest.ini for NVDA remote addon as I did with IBMTTS but it seemed to have a bug where I would get stuck controling remote machine, so it may need more updates to work correctly.
NVDA 2023.1 is now available! New paragraph options, link destination & annotated web content keystrokes, new Braille tables, fixes for Kindle, Windows 11, Office, Chrome, Firefox, web, java and more! Read the full what's new & download from: nvaccess.org/post/nvda-2023-…
Looks like Turbo Tax still has buttons labeled "[object Object]" during the tax review screen. Nice going on accessibility, Intuit. Normally you rock this.
ALT “This is progress” six circles filled with water with the first being little working up to full. “This is also progress” shows very slow progress. “And so this” shows little, then a lot, then back down and then back up.
I re-tested auto-translation of `aria-label`.
Chrome & Edge offer auto-translation. Firefox, Safari, et al, do not (I recall Safari 14 / iOS 11 had it, but I cannot find it now?).
Still little or no support.

Do not rely on it. #accessibility#a11y
ALT Chrome dev tools confirming the button has an accessible name from its aria-label.
ALT Chrome dev tools confirming the page has been translated but the button aria-label has not changed, nor has its accessible name.
God time to send feedback in about the newly redesigned google news site and how stupid it is that it got rid of consistent navigation techniques. gah I hate this cycle bullshit
I knew this was coming but hoped they were internally refining it, making it better. but now skipping through just one single story and none of the related articles becomes a chore so if my blind / VI friends know how please enlighten me.
I still wonder why some people write mastodon addresses as though they were e-mails rather than web URLs - having it an e-mail format makes me need to reverse it and manually go into my browser's page to follow them
