As students across Texas head back to the classroom, DPS remindsall Texans that school safety is a shared responsibility.
Drivers should slow down in school zones, eliminate distractions, remain alert and give students extra space. Remember: If a school bus is displaying alternating flashing red lights, drivers are required to stop. Parents and guardians should also talk with children about emergency procedures, situational awareness and who they can turn to for help at school. Remember to keep emergency contact information current and have a recent photo of your child available in case of an emergency.
Texans can also help keep schools and communities safe by reporting suspicious activity through iWatchTexas. As we begin a new school year, DPS encourages everyone to make safety a priority and do their part to help ensure every student makes it to school and back home safely.
