Altman describes building himself a full-access AI memory assistant, sounds a lot like a second brain / exocortex

"Whenever you centralize power, you attract the power-seeking self-interested people." @beffjezos basically argues that attempting to prevent bad actors from using AI by centralizing power and control basically hands the lightcone to the sociopaths

The singularity looks smooth from the perspective of the observer falling into it says @beffjezos: AGI is just the next mile marker (physical intelligence/robotics), then biology, then quantum-level matter control, each unlocking its own tech tree (self-assembling matter, engineered meta-materials, manual chemistry).

Buy data or generate data at a profit? @balajis tells the story of what got him to move from academia into business and tech.

On @CogRev_Podcast, host @labenz expresses surprise that the U.S. eased export controls on chips and China didn't want them. @deanwball reframes it as predictable given China's self-reliance planning and the convergence of U.S./China industrial-policy styles, lamenting that genuine expertise on Chinese government behavior stays behind closed doors in Washington.

The interviewer, @ShahrilHamdan, frames tech leaders as modern philosopher-kings reshaping society outside of normal democratic channels, and @balajis answers on two fronts: first a pro-democracy credential dump (technodemocracy, on-chain voting, funding open-source rule-of-law tools), then some perspective: tech wealth is the newest of new money, made largely by immigrants and outsiders who were marginal to American life, not political class inheritors. Clipped from @Kerissilicon

Spicy stuff from @Balajis: the USA is trying to flex as if they're in the 1945 America, but they're not. Some civilization states are going to see their sovereignty increase. Other states that were America dependent are going to see their sovereignty decrease. The internet has already taken over some aspects of sovereignty from the American state. Mark Carney in a sense is the most important American Democrat, even though he's Canadian.

Balaji on his role as an investor-guest in the countries he builds in: politicians set the rules, Network States play by them. @balajis @ns

Balaji lays out a succession of empires (Britain → America → internet), argues the internet company is already a post-national sovereign (in terms of size/numbers), then explains why it can't yet act like one physically: the competent faction (tech) has no physical-build rights, and the two factions that do (blue/red America) are each broken in their own way. The network state is introduced as the solution that lets internet-native competence acquire and build physical territory. LFG. @balajis

seasteading, mars, reclaimed land @balajis is in favor of building the new world on ground where nobody lives instead of taking it from someone. you can have a frontier without conquest if you go somewhere empty enough (or if you are invited)

The same crypto that moves one Bitcoin can record one vote. Balaji calls it a social smart contract — governance you grant like an OAuth permission, readable and revocable, binding the CEO as tightly as the worker. That's constrained government, written in code everyone can verify.

Balaji says that only a small fraction of the old world ever left for the new world and yet they rebuilt the whole planet's toolkit. small self-selected groups building in places that tolerate risk is a great way to try low risk experiments that could benefit everyone
