startup market is so funny right now.
you build a product, get people to use it, and then send a ridiculous amount of the money to whoever runs the compute. started thinking about this when i first saw instinct.
i think the ai companies that win long term will be the ones with the balls to bring more of that in-house. own the hardware, rely on fewer providers, get the costs down. not the most exciting part of building a company but maybe that’s where the moat ends up being.
which makes me wonder if someone will do it backwards. already own the hardware, then figure out a product people actually want and beat everyone because they’ve already got the best engine.
feels like we’re all watching the apps and there’s a whole other race happening underneath.

this person worked on basically every iconic steve jobs keynote. ipod, iphone, ipad.
then brian chesky and airbnb and 200+ startups along the way. one of the best storytellers out there.
and somehow i got to sit down with him 1:1 today.
moments like these make me so fucking happy i chose to be a founder.
sometimes you just gotta stop for a second and appreciate how crazy it is that you get to experience things like this.

Getting data center space in the US is becoming nearly impossible.
It's pretty simple in the EU. You can call two people and find racks immediately.
The US doesn't have enough physical space, and more companies are quietly moving capacity out to Canada, Mexico, France, etc.
If this trend continues, the US is going to have a sovereign AI capacity problem.

unpopular take: i strongly believe that a lot of european founders are better at execution than american founders.
i have so many friends building companies both in tech and in much less exciting markets that almost nobody knows about.
they’re doing real revenue, they’re profitable, and they’re creating genuine value for their customers.
on the other hand, you see founders in the us with barely anything built raising tens of millions just because they know how to tell a great story.
a couple of questions keep coming to mind:
1. which approach wins in the end?
2. why are european founders so reluctant to play the big game when they’ve already proven they can execute?

who you build with > what you build, in the long run.
i’m a big believer that even with a clear destination, the wrong crew can sink the ship.
but with the right crew, you can stay afloat long enough to figure out where you want to go and how to get there.
it’s much easier to find the right product for a great team than to build a great team around a product.
