"if i were born into a different culture/country/whatever, i would obviously..." is an idiotic formulation. it's like saying "if i were born a squirrel, obviously i would simply go to the library and teach myself to read bc i love books" no, you wouldn't. you would be a squirrel and it wouldn't be "you" bc the very concept is nonsensical.
you are you. that means:
1) you are your body (can't be "born in the wrong body" but can have horrible debilitating mental illness that makes you feel forever uncomfortable in your body in various ways)
2) you are the product of your particular parents and their parents and their parents back to the dawn of time.
that's true genetically -- which influences way way more of your abilities, actions, likes dislikes, potential, etc. than anyone wishes it did -- and also true culturally.
if "you" were born into a different culture, it wouldn't be you, it would be someone from that culture. everything the you from this culture finds abhorrent about that culture would seem fine to that other "you" because you would be of that culture and the reason they have that culture isn't bc they are modern, 21st century american liberals who have been tricked into some other culture, it's bc they like that culture, they and their ancestors have built it over centuries and millenia.
the whole concept is just so obviously dumb it's hard to believe how often you see ostensibly smart people publicly base worldviews on it.
