Sometimes it hits me that there are people here I’ve rarely or never met, who I talk to regularly behind pseudonyms, bound by passion alone, who I’d trust without hesitation to hold anything of value for me. And I believe they’d say the same. It’s a nice thing to sit with.

Collection highlight: ‘Sculpture-GAN’ by @videodrome (Sep. 6, 2017 - Physical - 1/1) This project began as an attempt at generative architecture, but the lack of an appropriate dataset kept Robbie Barrat from pursuing that direction. Instead, he trained an unconditional GAN, inspired by 3D DCGAN, on 32x32x32 voxelizations of Thingi10k, a corpus of 10,000 3D-printable objects and sculptures, allowing it to generate abstract AI-made 3D shapes that could themselves be printed. This work is the only GAN sculpture Robbie ever produced, printed on his own $300 3D printer in September 2017. This app completely warps our expectations of time & the need for immediate reward. It’s baked into the UI/UX. W/ art and cultural objects it could take *decades* to determine a lasting legacy for important art. But that type of patience is not reflected or encouraged on the tl.

He continues: “In Feb. 2015, Weex [David Sterry] spray-painted a private key missing two characters, minted it as ‘KETF’… and dared Reddit to ‘STEAL THIS ART. CRACK ITS KEY.’ Stolen within hours.” The February 14, 2025 created Counterparty artwork is acquired by Archivist for 17 ETH from Griffin. Earlier this year and prior to collecting the work, Archivist wrote a point-of-view piece on it as part of the 24 Hours of Art Digital Art Pantheon.
