Look at Canada: polite, deferential, slower growth, heavier taxes, less innovation per capita. Australia and New Zealand are fine, but they never matched America’s scale or dynamism because they stayed tied to the Crown longer. We broke free and became the arsenal of democracy, the engine of the modern world. Patriots like Washington, Jefferson, Franklin, Adams, and Hamilton didn’t risk hanging for nothing. They forged a republic based on consent of the governed, separation of powers, and enumerated rights. That experiment produced The freest, wealthiest large nation in history. Victory over tyranny twice in world war without us, Europe speaks German or Russian today. Technological miracles: from the light bulb and airplane to the internet, GPS, and vaccines that saved billions. A melting pot that turned huddled masses into Americans who outproduced the Old World. Staying colonies? We’d have been dragged into Britain’s decline opium wars, Irish famines, class rigidity, endless European meat-grinder wars. No Louisiana Purchase, no transcontinental railroad, no American Century. Slavery? Britain abolished the trade but tolerated it in colonies for profit; we fought our own civil war to end it, proving our capacity for moral correction under our own flag. Native relations were brutal on all sides in that era, but American expansion created the most prosperous continent on Earth. remaining colonies as surrender to mediocrity. We rejected divine-right kings and distant bureaucrats. Our system, for all its flaws and corrections (amendments, civil rights struggles), delivered unmatched mobility, speech, innovation, and power. Europe exported its best people to us for centuries because America offered opportunity, not overlords. Today, despite our divisions, people still risk everything to cross our borders legally or not because this is the land of dreams, not a Dominion of Her Majesty. The Founders pledged their lives, fortunes, and sacred honor. They won. We inherited the greatest country ever devised. Calling independence a “failed experiment” spits on Valley Forge, Yorktown, Gettysburg, Normandy, and every backyard BBQ under the flag. America exists because free men chose self government over colonial comfort. We weren’t “supposed” to remain anything we were supposed to become exceptional. And we did.
