I recently noticed a big change to the mint It's-It, San Francisco's iconic frozen treat. the ice cream isn't as green as it used to be, and my colleague @taraduggan found out why! (featuring some input from yours truly) sfchronicle.com/food/article…

State Sen. @Scott_Wiener has made housing his defining cause over a 10-year tenure in Sacramento — and in his campaign to represent SF in Congress. Has his legislative record led to a meaningful number of new homes? Here's what @thejdmorris and I found: sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

I agree with a lot of this but Hacks should definitely be ranked above The Comeback (which was also very good!) The Americans and Better Caul Saul should be higher too. And Game of Thrones should be lower because of those last 2 seasons

I saw the White House mentioned in a press release today a 2011 spat between the Chronicle and Obama’s admin as part of its justification for a recent ban on Politico, MS NOW and CNN. So I called up the former Chron reporter (@cmarinucci) to get her take: sfchronicle.com/politics/art…

Mayor Daniel Lurie's office apologized for appointing zero public school students to San Francisco's youth commission. His all-private-school appointments were an "oversight," he said, that he would learn from. missionlocal.org/2026/09/san…

Lurie's endorsement of Yekutiel stands out given the sexual assault allegation against Yekutiel. Lurie said he takes "any accusation of this nature very seriously" and he talked about it with Yekutiel, who assured him "the allegation simply was not true." sfchronicle.com/sf/article/m…

I wrote about Connie Chan's work as an SF supervisor, in light of her bid to succeed Nancy Pelosi in Congress. While her opponents have cast her as an obstructionist, she says she's listening to her constituents and avoiding a "winner takes all" approach. sfchronicle.com/sf/article/c…

Mayor Lurie lobbied the MLB Commissioner about this in May, writing that SF was "the ideal stage" for the All-Star Game & the city was having a "remarkable resurgence." (also loved that this gave me an excuse to collab on a story with the great @susanslusser!)

“It’s a war,” he said. “We are Ukraine and she is Russia. There are atrocities on both sides. It’s absurd that this is continuing this far.” My latest -- a truly wild story about a mysterious SF landlord and a 3-year-rent strike sfchronicle.com/sf/article/l…

NEW: Mayor Daniel Lurie met with a top OpenAI exec days after the company's IPO announcement and urged them to partner with him on a new initiative to give back to SF. OpenAI turned him down for now, according to records I obtained. sfchronicle.com/sf/article/o…

Must be mentioned that the Mayor and his administration were pushed to act here by the dogged investigative work in recent months of @susieneilson @mitchell_m22494 @mgafni and @mdbarba of the Chronicle and @UCBerkeleyIRP as well as @Aisha_Mccain
When I took office, we set out to completely transform the city’s work around homelessness, drugs, and behavioral health—bringing urgency and accountability to every part of the system. San Franciscans should have confidence that public dollars are producing real results. So when a provider isn’t keeping residents safe or providing effective services, we need to make a change. Due to HomeRise's continued failures, the city is taking steps to transition four programs to new providers who can deliver. When an organization gets taxpayer dollars to deliver services for San Franciscans, our administration is going to hold them accountable. Thank you to Department of Homelessness and Supportive Housing Executive Director Mike Levine and his team for leading this work with compassion and accountability for every resident in San Francisco. sfchronicle.com/bayarea/arti…

I wrote about the wealthy donors bankrolling Mayor Lurie's political priorities and his work at SF City Hall. Many of them have been big fans of Lurie since his days running a major charity, but not everyone is happy about the influx of cash: sfchronicle.com/sf/article/d…
