I've lost count of the menu screens I posted here, but each one beats the last. #indiedev
Building settings and shortcuts, turns out there are 60 action buttons in total.
To sail is necessary, to live is not.
Opening scene example:
I'm working on quests and story, which pushed me into adding a few more UI elements. The hero popup works also as a foldable portrait, which turned out handy.
Our ship got separated from the rest of the fleet, which stopped at Alalia on Corsica.

I said once that optimization is boring, but it doesn't have to be. #indiedev
Stress test with 180 hoplites. Screen recording took its toll too, but the goal is 300 units at a steady 60 FPS.
An arrow once loosed never comes back.
Back to the core, polishing battle orders:
+Switching formation lets you avoid friendly fire. A clean angle on the enemy can still end up hitting a random unit of yours when the shot misses.
+Added a foldable battle event log

+City have stock market with daily barter deals.
+Navigation in towns is clicking straight on the locations
+I added early braking for boats, they row backwards, since I kept missing the dock lol

Added more real physics:
+Without direction, the ship drifts by own momentum.
+More speed, wider turn.
+Orders adjust to where the ship can actually go.
-Still only 4 animation directions. Want 8. Big job.
-More weather coming.
„If a man knows not to which port he sails, no wind is favourable" - Seneka
-Map will be part of the opening scene: Persian capture of Phocaea and its people fleeing west.
-Working on it helps me also understand that timeframe batter.
Plenty of labels still missing. WIP.
"The whole is more than the sum of its parts."

Roaming the map, battles got clumsy with only 4 formation facings.
-Added 4 diagonal ones.
-One click rotates 45°, double 90°.
-Simple arrow shows the formation's front.

Time is the wisest counselor of all.
Updated the time-of-day indicator and end it button.
Bit more computation style instead of drawing spritesheets so long that Godot refused to import them.
Long way from the first version, which looked like a Casio watch face. #indiedev
Can someone explain how a site used by millions every day shows you a square crop for your avatar and then cuts it into a circle? I cant sleep over single pixels and this just mocking me every time.
546 BC. Phocaea falls and its people flee west by sea. You are one of them.
Maps do not exist yet. What sailors keep is a periplus: a record of one route, harbour by harbour.
Pixel Formation has no minimap, or some arrow, only periploi you collect or make. #indiedev
Difference between crappy display and IPS. There will be for sure entry calibration because I spent a lot time on picking colours. On X I can't do that all my visuals I post are downgraded a lot.
