"Beyond a point" is right.
Everything you do outside of the actual work, say networking, research, studying, events, beyond a point, is a distraction. It feels productive. It feels in service of the craft. But the hard thing is to sit at your desk. What happens between you and a piece of paper, or a screen, is what matters. It is the only thing that matters. You will try to avoid it for as long as you can but that is what you must come back to again and again.
