Tokunbo Wahab himself admitted to needing 2,000 trucks to keep Lagos clean, yet the state only budgeted for 200 in the 2025 budget.
Meanwhile, they spent twice the amount allocated for those waste trucks to buy tables and chairs, a staggering 4 billion naira just for tables and chairs.
Residents around Ikotun Market and Ejigbo Road have resorted to dumping refuse on highways, amid complaints over inadequate waste collection and the absence of visible Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) operations in some streets.
The development comes as illegal dumpsites and refuse heaps persist in parts of Ejigbo, raising concerns over sanitation, public health and the environment.
Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu recently declared a “small state of emergency” on waste management, while announcing plans to increase waste-disposal capacity, deploy more equipment and restructure LAWMA’s operations.
